The History Of The Unofficial Courteney Cox Arquette Homepage

I've created this page just to let people know this site's history, it may be abit boring but I just want to keep a record.

Originally called Constantly Courteney Cox this site was started on the 23rd of December 1997 by me, it was crap as it only had 2 pages and nothing much else but soon after that I made another version of the site, this time it contained a gallery and a interview page and it got listed in Yahoo, which was nice :)

But still the site lacked so much, so in the summer of 1998 I made yet another version, this time it came in frames and no-frames and it was made with Symantec Visual Page 1.0 prior to this the site was made with MS Publisher 97 which was a pain to work with (down with Micro$oft)

By this time the site was moving along very nicely but I was running out of space so I purchased a Geocities Geoplus account (ah back then Geocities was actually ok) this became the first bit of money I spent on the site, but not the last :)

Then came February 1999 I remade the site yet again, but this time I actually put some work and thought into it, and the site really started to get popular after I did that but the site lacked alot and once again I was running out of webspace so I pulled out all the stops and bought myself a domain and 350MB of webspace from Communitech.net in April of 1999.

When I moved the site to the new domain (http://www.courteneycox.net) I decided I would rename the site as I really hated the name Constantly Courteney Cox so I named the site CourteneyCox.net (kind of a lame name but I thought it was much better then the old one) then came the summer so I thought once again the site lacked something and that something was pictures and I really wanted to change that so I came up with a new plan (NO!, not a plan to take over the world :) but a plan to make the picture gallery the biggest Courteney Cox Arquette image gallery on the net.

I spent months working on the new gallery, making a better navigation system, setting up a Top Gallery pictures page (with help from Andy the owner of Friends-Tv.net) and alot of people commented on how much better it was.

Also during the summer Courteney got married to David Arquette and soon after she changed her name to Courteney Cox Arquette (before this she was known as Courteney Cox) so I decided I better buy a Courteney Cox Arquette domain before the porn sites buy them up, according to news reports Courteney was planning to drop Cox from her name, so I took a chance and I decided to buy the domain CourteneyArquette.com.

In December 1999 I decided that I would once again redesign the site (maybe for the last time).
As you can see I changed the sites name to The Unofficial Courteney Cox Arquette Homepage or UCCAH, At last I actually liked the name of the site.

Sadly on the 19th of July, 2000 I received a e-mail from my webhost Communitech.net, they basically said that because I had images on my site that I did'ent photograph they were going to shutdown my site for "copywritten material" this is of course all made up as the same webhost shut down 300+ other sites that it was hosting all for reasons it mostly made up (CNET.com have a article on what happened), unfortunately they also shut down the Best Friends site on the net Friends-TV.net so it really turned out to be a very sad week for friends sites.

Here's part of the notice that was on my site:
"Yesterday (the 19th) I received a e-mail from my webhost telling me that my site is being shut down this coming Friday (21st) because it contains copyright material, I now have 3 options, get a dedicated server (which costs 10 times more then I'm currently paying) find a new webhost or close the site"

This situation really spelled the end for U.C.C.A.H as I did'ent have the money to get a dedicated server ($200 a month) But luckily Glenn Cameron came to the sites rescue and he setup a nice webhost account on his server so this is where U.C.C.A.H is currently hosted. (now with 400MB of space)

Before I re-opened the site again I setup CourteneyCox.net webmail and I changed the layout of the main page, I also added the On-line Store. (During the time the site was closed it finally got its 500,000 visitor)

On the 18th of November 2000 the site finally reopened again after almost 4 months of downtime.

A new owner took over the site at this stage but sadly due to personal & time commitments between November 2001 & March 2005 there were no major site updates, but thankfully TheNexus was nice enough to keep on hosting the site during this period. During this low point in this sites history the courteneycox.net domain was lost due to non-payment so all the 20,000 users of the e-mail service were left without webmail (sorry everybody)

The website was kindly hosted for free by The Nexus untill August 2006 at which point this hosting was suspended and the site was rehosted with a new provider, the site now has clocked up over 1000,000+ visitors. Once the site came back on-line most of the content was taken off line with the exception of the gallery and the multimedia section as these are the most popular sections.

Website is now occasional updated and checked on to see its still up and running and working correctly

To Be Continued...

Well that's the history of the site for now
Hope you enjoyed it.
